Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT THE TOUR
The Monticello Park Holiday Home Tour is self-guided, showcasing 6-8 homes in the Monticello Park Historic District. You will enter private homes and gardens and may begin the tour at any of the homes featured that day. The homes vary in age, size, and style.  They may have high-stooped entries with eight or more steps and are NOT handicapped accessible.

Each guest will receive an official tour booklet which will serve as your ticket into the homes. The address of each site is included in the tour booklet and marked on a map. Docents will greet you at each tour site and have additional information about the home and furnishings.  In addition, each home is marked with a colorful marker for identification.

HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS?
Tickets were $20 prior to December 3, 2022 and $25 the day of the tour. The tour always happens rain or shine and tickets are non-refundable.  Children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

You may also purchase tickets the day of the tour at the Tour Headquarters: Jackson Community Room at Jefferson Community Church, 758 Donaldson Ave.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY TICKETS?
Tickets are not mailed. They must be picked up from WILL CALL at the Tour Headquarters starting at 10 AM the morning of the tour.  Bring your printed receipt or confirmation with you and we will exchange it for the official tour booklet, which will serve as your entry ticket into the homes.

WHERE DO I START?
The tour is self-guided, so you may start at any of the homes on tour. There is not a set path of houses to see in any particular order.

WHERE DO I PARK?
S
treet parking is available near each tour home on a first come, first served basis. No shuttle service is offered.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Please wear soft soled shoes to minimize harm to floors. Casual attire with comfortable walking shoes is appropriate.  We request you keep in mind the delicate nature of the hardwood floors in many of the homes.  Many homes may request that you remove your shoes before entering, or you may be requested to wear shoe covers, which will be provided.

WILL BATHROOMS BE AVAILABLE IN THE HOMES?
We are sorry, but the bathrooms in our tour properties are meant to be viewed and not used buy our guests.  If you need to use a facility, please do it between stops on the tour. There are public restrooms nearby in businesses on Fredericksburg Road and at the Tour Headquarters.

WILL THE TOUR BE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER?
We always expect the best weather, and the tour will go on, rain or shine.  All proceeds benefit Monticello Park Neighborhood Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

WHAT STYLES ARE THE HOMES ON THE TOUR?
The homes of Monticello Park represent an extraordinary collection of architectural styles popular during the early 20th Century, including Tudor Revival, Spanish Revival, Craftsman, Mid-Century Modern, and more.  Virtually every house proudly shows the handiwork of individual artisans. Notice the masonry, plasterwork, Mission tiles, arches, built-ins, cartouches, and towers—all touches which make these homes truly unique.

MAY I TAKE PHOTOS?
Out of respect for the homeowners, no photography or video is allowed inside the homes.  You may take photos of the homes’ exteriors from the sidewalk.

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED ON THE TOUR?
Certainly, and children 12 and under can attend for free. We want to introduce outstanding architecture and design to everyone. However, parents must remain aware of where their children are at all times. Also, babies in strollers are not allowed — most properties have stairs, and most will be somewhat crowded.

WHAT IS PROHIBITED?
Smoking, photos, food, drinks, and pets are not permitted. Please park strollers outside the home if you are touring with an infant.

WHAT DO THE HOME TOUR PROCEEDS SUPPORT?
Proceeds from the tour are the primary source of funding for the Monticello Park Neighborhood Association. MPNA uses these proceeds to fund college scholarships, historic restoration projects, neighborhood beautification, tree planting, a July 4th Children’s Parade, neighborhood events, and our bi-monthly newsletter.
